DESCRIPTION: “Eddy County, named after Charles B. Eddy, an early settler, was organized from a part of Lincoln county in 1891. Carlsbad, the county seat, was laid out in 1888 as the town of Eddy. The name was changed to Carlsbad in 1899. The first courthouse was completed in 1892 on the present site. It was added to in 1914 and rebuilt in 1939.”
