CHRISTMAS ISLAND VINTAGE POLICE PATCH

Up for auction is a vintage Christmas Island Police patch.
Where is Christmas Island? Not, as one might expect, near the North Pole. It is an Australian island territory located far from Australia, in the Indian Ocean, relatively near Java, Indonesia. It was claimed by the British in the late 19th Century and occupied by the Japanese during World War II. The island has about 1,600 permanent residents. Most of the island is a national park.
This patch, which was part of a large lot of police patches collected by a retired Ohio police officer, measures about 3 inches wide and 3 1/2 inches high. It is in excellent condition.
