This custom designed bassoon reamer is guaranteed to be the  best and only reamer you will ever need, or I will give you a full refund and pay for shipping charges both ways.
Made from HS steel (which stands for High Speed Steel),  this material is a special alloy manufactured & heat treated in such a way that the cutting edges will never dull. Such steels are used in high speed drilling situations where heat will normally soften & dull the cutting edges. Thus-an extremely hard type of steel is required.
The bottom line is, next to carbide, this is the best material one can use for drill bit manufacture. Do a GOOGLE search and you can find out more.
The dimensions of this reamer have been carefully set to conform to the inner dimensions of a bassoon reed and will not take any cane out beyond the first wire.  The taper of the ream allows for a smooth fit on any bocal, while ramping the ream starting just before the first wire, progressing back to the insertion point of the bocal. This type of ream thus guarantees the same internal dimension from reed to reed & from first wire to bocal insertion point, no matter what issues develop with wire tightness or non-symmetric tube formation during the forming process. Go to Barrick Stees (Cleveland Orchestra) blog for some interesting thoughts on this issue.
The stopper is adjustable using the included allen wrench to set the depth of the ream to whatever suits your reed style and pitch requirements.
The ergonomically designed birch wood handle is made in Germany by PFERD, which is a company that specializes in making files & file handles.  The pronounced lip at the top of the handle is there for thumb placement, and for allowing adequate pressure into the reed as you ream. This reamer is somewhat larger than the other reamers I offer, & is meant for bassoonists who make a lot of reeds and is more suited for the reed bench than the bassoon case.
Conveniently, this reamer (with the adjustment stop removed) can be used as a contra reamer as well as a standard bassoon reamer.  See last picture above
Finally, the price of this reamer is more than half what you would pay from Rieger and all the other double reed supply houses out there. I can do this because I do all the work myself, and have no costly overhead, inventory, or staff. I am a one man operation, self admitted bassoon geek, and am not relying on any of this as a primary source of income.
Finally, if you buy this, or any other tool, I can include and ship any cane order you place for no additional cost in shipping.
