    This scarce 1900s "G W Gail & Ax Navy Cut" litho dome top tobacco tin, measuring 7" x
    4 3/4", is in excellent with no dents or rust and some very minor paint scratches.  There is a partial tax stamp on the lid and two sides.  This very attractive light blue tin features navy lettering advertising G W Gail & Ax  tobacco as well as the company logo.  The tobacco was manufactured by G W Gail & Ax, Baltimore, MD in Factory 5, District, MD.  The company was the first to introduce military themed tobacco after the conclusion of the Spanish-American War in 1898.  Other tobacco companies soon began to produce their own military themed tobacco brands.
