This organization had a reputation for brutality and oppression during the days of the military dictatorship. After the Civil War peace accords were signed in 1996, this organization was abolished and replaced by the National Civil Police. Several years ago all of the Policia Nacional records were discovered in a warehouse, serving as testimony to the torture and other brutal treatment given out during the Civil War Years.
This beautiful patch features the quetzal bird, the symbol of Guatemalan freedom. It is unused at 3 1/2" tall.
